Key Dates - pre 2005

2004
Most successful [trading] year so far with client list including Macmillan, Folens, Pearsons & Collins.

2003
First picture story book [Shauna's Hurricane - Macmillan]. Platform switch to MAC. Began work on own book.

2002
Largest single commission undertaken so far between May-July for the Arabian market. Involved reference gathering trip to the Gulf!

2001
Illustration work from website enquirers taking shape with largest [web-sourced] contract to date in early Spring via Tangerine Designs - The Human Body Book [Alligator Books]

2000
Online presence launched in May - swill.co.uk. I am now on my second machine with 90% + of my commercial artwork being produced in digital format.

1999
Traditional artwork production is now being supplemented by digital techniques as new skills are learnt.

1998
At long last achieved my ambition and invested in a PC with graphics capability.

1993
Contacted Graham-Cameron Illustration, an agency specialising in educational illustration and joined their artists stable. Since then, I have gone from strength to strength, illustrating for most of the big publishing houses in this country: Penguin, Collins, Macmillan, Scholastic, Folens, Longmans to name but a few.

1990
My son Ben was born and I decided to go it alone and work from home, specialising in illustration. Early commisions included the 'Going into Europe' book produced by Shell UK. I also illustrated syndicated characters such as Rupert Bear and Puppy in my Pocket for childrens' tissue boxes and floral designs for loo paper! All destined for the major British stores such as Boots, Tesco, Sainsburys etc.

pre 1990
After studying graphics at Lincoln College of Art, initial experience designing and printing company brochures and stationery was gained with Barfords of Belton [near Grantham]. Before eventually becoming self employed, forming the partnership Concept Graphics, I became Senior Designer at Lyne Publicity [Grantham] where I worked on a variety of graphics and exhibition projects.   [back to top]
